| Is Dental care necessary? Although most nursing home residents are elderly and may have dentures, dental care is still an important health issue for them. Often their teeth, gums, or dentures cause pain or discomfort. This will make eating difficult, consequently their diet suffers and ultimately their health declines. |
| What kind of dental care does the nursing home provide? Routine assistance with brushing. When a resident requires professional dental care the nursing home must provide such care from a licensed dentist. |
| What services may I expect from Resi-Dent? Residents on the Resi-Dent program receive diagnostic exams and a complete treatment plan. Covered services include professional cleanings of teeth and dentures, fillings, extractions, treatment for gum diseases, dentures, religns, and even custom fitted dentures. The dentist documents all procedures in the resident's medical charts. Twenty-four hour per day emergency care is provided. |
| What are the costs? The program costs you nothing additional. This is because your loved one is entitled to supplemental insurance. That is to say your state Medicaid system reimburses the home for this allowed expense. |
| What if my family member is not on Medicaid? Private pay residents are eligible for the same benefits under Resi-Dent. The only difference is Medicaid is not responsible to the facility for reimbursement. We will bill you directly each month for the premium. |
| When will my loved one see the dentist and how often? The Resi-Dent dentist or hygienist will come to the nursing facility approximately once per month. Each member is seen according to need and treatment plan prescribed by the dentist. In the case of an emergency the facility will notify the dentist and schedule a priority call as soon as possible. |
| Who are these dentists? These are dentists from your area who hold your state's license and are dedicated to treating residents in long term care facilities. |
| Where do I start? We need to receive a complete and signed application. We will do everything necessary from the point we receive the application to begin your loved ones total dental care. |
