How Resi-Dent Works

As a Medicaid Recipient, your loved one is entitled to dental insurance. Medicaid allows residents of long-term care facilities to pay less each month to the facility and to use that money to pay for dental insurance. In some instances, your facility may elect to be billed directly for the insurance premium. In either case, it's a no-lose proposition!

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

What does Resi-Dent cost?
Essentially, the program costs most Medicaid recipients nothing - no additional cost.

What if my loved one is not covered by Medicaid?
Resi-Dent is available to private pay residents at the same affordable monthly premium.

Why do residents of long-term care facilities need dental care?
Pain from teeth, gums or dentures can make simply eating a painful experience, diminishing residents' quality of life. Moreover, dental health is important for overall health: Studies have linked tooth decay and gum disease with serious health problems, such as strokes.

Doesn't the facility provide dental care?
Long-term care facilities provide routine assistance with tooth brushing. However, problems with teeth, dentures and gums require care from a licensed dentist.
